Variable:Energy
Description:

Energy transferred from the injury. Classification of the energy and mechanism of injury is described in "Injury Classification" link below.

Distribution:Discrete
States:
  • High
  • Low

    Injury_Classification(Supporting Evidence)

The mechanism and energy of injuries are classified as shown below: 1) Penetrating – High velocity a)High velocity gun (rifle) b)Close range shotgun wound 2) Penetrating – Low velocity a)Stabbing b)Handgun 3) Blunt trauma – High velocity a)Fall from height > 20 ft / 3 floors / 6 meters b)Ejected from vehicle c)Trapped under vehicle (train / bus / car) d)RTC: mechanical entrapment / death of occupant / major intrusion into passenger compartment e)Pedestrian vs. vehicle > 30mph f)Crush 4) Blunt trauma - Low velocity a) Low energy blunt trauma injuries, excluding the conditions above. 5) Blast: There were no blast injuries in the development cohort of the ATC BN. Blast injuries are classified as high energy blunt injuries when using the model.
