Dataset: UKMilitaryDataset
Description: The UKMilitaryDataset consists of data from consecutive UK military personnel who sustained a lower-extremity arterial injury while serving in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan between January 2003 and September 2014. The cohort was identified from the UK Joint Theatre Trauma Registry (UK-JTTR). The UK-JTTR is a prospectively maintained, comprehensive database of all UK military personnel either killed on operations or treated by the Defence Medical Services following an injury.
Exclusion criteria were:
(a) Personnel who sustained a traumatic limb amputation or who underwent amputation as the first operative procedure (primary amputation) – as the outcome, had revascularization been pursued, is unknown;
(b) Isolated Profunda Femoris injuries – as these injuries have minimal effect on limb viability when the femoral-popliteal-tibial axis is patent and were not identified as a risk factor for amputation in the systematic review;
(c) Iatrogenic vascular injuries – as these injuries fall outside of the intended scope of the model; and
(d) Cases where the reason for limb amputation was not clearly documented.
