- SPOC-APP: SPatial big data & OCcupancy
analysis and APplication research on resources and environment
management auxiliary decision-making Platform,
expected to start Sept 2018 for 24 months, £720,000 (PI)
- Buildings account for ~40% of total energy use & carbon emissions in Guangdong, & are the largest single contributor to wasted energy – significantly in servicing unoccupied buildings. Despite representing the primary challenge facing all building operators & facility managers obtaining a precise and reliable measurement of occupancy remains difficult based on current solutions, the impact being that most buildings are inefficiently managed with poor energy performance.
- Smart Grid: IRENE Improving
the Robustness of Urban Electricity Networks funded by ESRC/TSB,
Oct 2014 for 36 months,
€1,419,849 (PI)
- The research project involves 5 European partners. This project focuses on utilising the decentralised nature of future energy generation to make them more robust to attacks, and on minimising impact of power outages on associated critical infrastructures such as water and gas supply, communication systems, public transport, and road traffic control. The aim to understand what social and technical measure should be considered when implementing these new technologies for the benefit of all stakeholders.
