Profile

Dr Nickos Paltalidis PhD, MSc, BSc (Hon), FHEA, MBCS, joined Queen Mary University of London in 2015. He is a computing and business lecturer at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. Nickos is currently devoted full time to teaching and scholarship in the joint programme with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) in Beijing, Peoples Republic of China.

Nickos works primarily with the joint programme second-year students in the areas of Product Development and Enterprise Management. He also enjoys collaborative dissertation supervision with a number of final year graduates annually, some of which have led to conference publications. He appreciates the cultural exchange element of the JP having previously run traditional Greek dancing classes for his students. 

Nickos has published numerous refereed conference papers in various enterprise IT related topics. His long term research interest is particularly focused on Business to Business Electronic Commerce (B2B EC) and the Business Model Architecture.

Prior to joining Queen Mary, Nickos worked for more than 15 years as lecturer and programme leader in undergraduate and postgraduate studies in a number of British and American institutions based in the United Kingdom.  

Nickos is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and a Professional Member of the British Computing Society (BCS).

Teaching

Enterprise Management (BUPT joint programme)

Introduction of fundamental business and management concepts, theories, and analytical tools to engineering students. Development and application of these concepts, theories and tools in a global engineering/technology context.

Product Development and Marketing (BUPT joint programme)

This is an introductory module in New Product Development with focus on Marketing. During this module, student will have the opportunity to: a) define the concept of innovation within the context of new product development, b) learn how to analyse the customer needs and measure the market potential for a new technology or product, c) translate these needs into technical product features, d) set the right price and select the best distribution channel, e) define a promotion strategy for launching a new product in the market place, f) act as entrepreneur planning the start-up of a new business (entrepreneurship) in areas like telecommunications and ecommerce.
