I received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 2006. From 2007 to 2011, I was with the Wireless and Networking Technologies Laboratory at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Australia. During this time, I have held visiting faculty appointments at the University of Technology Sydney, the University of New South Wales, and the University of Sydney. In 2011, I joined the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London. I also hold a visiting faculty appointment at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

My research spans the areas of communication theory and statistical signal processing with special emphasis on intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), ultra-high reliability and low latency communication (URLLC), and Internet of Things (IoT). [Google Scholar Profile]

I have served on the editorial board of numerous IEEE journals, including the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Molecular, Biological, and Multi-Scale Communications, and the IEEE Communication Letters. I have also served as Guest Editor of the special issue on "Location Awareness for Radios and Networks" of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, the special issue on "Energy Harvesting Communications" of the IEEE Communications Magazine, the special issue on "Green Media: The Future of Wireless Multimedia Networks" of the IEEE Wireless Communications, and the special issue on "Millimeter Wave Communications for 5G" of the IEEE Communications Magazine.

Listed as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics, my research has received numerous awards, including the 2022 IEEE Communications Society Leonard G. Abraham Prize, and best paper awards at the 2014 and 2016 IEEE ICC, 2014 CHINACOM, and 2013 IEEE VTC-Spring. I received the Top 15 Editors Recognition Award of the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology in 2014 and the Exemplary Reviewer Award of the IEEE Communications Letters in 2012.
