Portrait Sonification

Portrait Sonification was commissioned in 2006 by the painter Alla Tkachuk for a conference on modern portraiture held at the National Portrait Gallery. I created a software for this piece allowing to use a picture of the painter as a formal guide to my composition process.
3 years later, Scorpene Horrible created a video counterpart to this piece. The video is based on a performance by Marie-Laure Crochant. Scorpene Horrible added several layers of transformations to the footage, following the evolution of the sound. The result shows a contrast between an intense local activity and a global impression that evolves at a much slower pace.
The audiovisual piece and the program have been released in January 2010 on the label Forwind, in the series Horizontal Volumes.
