Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor), Senior Tutor (Postgraduate), Chair of Staff Student Liaison Committee (Postgraduate) and Industry Strategy Coordinator. Research portfolio of £3.7m. Expertise from the basics of antennas, electromagnetic and networking to telerobotics, cognitive radio and wearable technologies at the Antennas and Electromagnetics Research Group, the Centre for Intelligent Sensing and Institute of Bioengineering. Over 130 publications in leading journals and international conferences (2200+ citations and H-index of 23). Recipient of the 2011 British Science Festival Isambard Kingdom Brunel Award, participant at 'I'm a Scientist! Get me out of here' March 2012 and TEDx 2012 Speaker. College member of EPSRC, Senior member of IEEE and member of IET.

Profile

    Biography

    I received the M.Eng. degree in Communication Engineering and PhD degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (specialised in Antennas and Radio Propagation) from Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL), United Kingdom, in July 2003 and July 2007, respectively. My PhD was funded by QMUL full scholarship and also the Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS) award. I joined the department of Electronic Engineering, QMUL, as a research assistant in 2006 working on body–worn antennas and radios. I am now a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Antennas and Electromagnetics Research Group in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen mary, University of London. I am the Senior Tutor for Postgraduate Studies, Chair of the Staff Students Liaison Committee for PG and the Industry Strategy Coordinator for the school. I am a member of the corss–faculty Centre for Intelligent Sensing and Institute of Bioengineering. Senior member of the IEEE, Member of the IET and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.     Teaching

    I am a Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London on Digital Systems Design, Communication Systems Electronics and Interactive Objects. I supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students on projects related wireless sensors, antennas, radio propagation, guided robots, indoor localisation and motion capture using basic electronics. Previous projects included GPS guided robot, navigation–based London bus system, wireless sensor network for ambient control of green buildings, person tagging using reusable WiFi signals, body–worn antennas for security and entertainment, wireless signals for energy harvesting and software implementation to control experimental equipment through LabView and basic programming. I am also the Senior Tutor and Staff Student Liaison Committee (SSLC) Chair for postgraduate studies and the Industry Strategy Coordinator (Employability). I am an active member of the School Outreach and Communication Committee and Team. Nominated for 'QMUL Teacher of the Year' award in April 2014. My teaching activities include:

    • At the end of 2012 (precisely on 31st December 2012), I have presented at TEDxSanaa, which is an independently organised event under TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) with the theme of "Inspiring Hope". I have talked about our recent research in various fields with the main heading of "From Science Fiction to Reality: The Electromagnetic Way!".
    • I gave a few talks at the Brainwave Event in NETPark Science Park in Sedgefield County Durham organised to outreach science and engineering to schools and the public in July 2012.
    • I was one of the few scientists selected to take part in "I'm a scientist, get me out of here!" in March 2012. It was great and exciting to take part and answer questions by school kids about crazy science ideas to save the planet! More here
    • I was interviewed by Al–Jazeera English to comment on the latest experimental work by University of Austin, Texas on the invisibility cloak engineering due to my outreach activities in this field.
