Deputy Dean for Postgraduate Research in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Lead of the Centre for Electronics, Head of the Antennas and Electromagnetics Research Group and Professor of Antennas & Applied EM. Associate Editor for IEEE AWPL and IEEE J-ERM. Lead of Wearable Technology and Creativity Research. Research portfolio ranging from the basics of antennas and electromagnetism to novel applications in telerobotics, cognitive radio, wearable electronics, nano-scale networks, healthcare and bioenigneering. Member of the Centre for Intelligent Sensing and Institute of Bioengineering. Over 450 publications in leading journals and international conferences (8800+ citations and H-index of 43).   • March 2024: Antennas & EM Lab secured a £971,000 EPSRC grant to establish MUSCAT, a training hub for the next gen of future telecoms technicians and software engineers!   • February 2024: Our work on Terahertz Biosensor for Skin Cancer Characterisation published in the IEEE Trans. on Biomedical Engineering has been picked up by Medical Express, Interesting Engineering, Technology Networks, and Azosensors.
  • February 2024: The Faculty of Science & Engineering is organising for the second year running the successful and exciting Night of Science and Engineering, where the Antennas Group and Centre for Electronics has two stands; Smart Connected Future and Environmental Monitoring showcasing our excellent multidisciplinary research.
  • January 2024: Our paper on "Highly Sensitive Terahertz Metasurface Based on Electromagnetically Induced Transparency-Like Resonance in Detection of Skin Cancer Cells" has been accepted for publication in the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering highlighting our latest work on THHz biosensors collaborating with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Profile

    Biography

    I received the M.Eng. degree in Communication Engineering and PhD degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (specialised in Antennas and Radio Propagation) from Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL), United Kingdom, in July 2003 and July 2007, respectively. My PhD was funded by QMUL full scholarship and also the Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS) award. I joined the department of Electronic Engineering, QMUL, as a research assistant in 2006 working on body–worn antennas and radios. I am now a Professor of Antennas & Applied EM in the Antennas and Electromagnetics Research Group in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London. I am the Deputy Dean for Postgraduate Research in the Faculty of Science and Engineering in QMUL and the Head of the Antennas and Electromagnetics Research Group. I am a member of the corss–faculty Centre for Intelligent Sensing and Institute of Bioengineering. Fellow of the Royal Society of Art, Senior member of the IEEE, Member of the IET and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. My current research interests include (but not limited to):

    Teaching

    I received the QMUL team Education Excellence Award 2019 for the Technical Thinking and Writing Initiative as part of a team led by Dr Timotijevic. I supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students on projects related wireless sensors, antennas, radio propagation, guided robots, indoor localisation and motion capture using basic electronics. I am also the Senior Tutor and Staff Student Liaison Committee (SSLC) Chair for postgraduate studies and the Industry Strategy Coordinator (Employability).     • At the end of 2012 (precisely on 31st December 2012), I have presented at TEDxSanaa, which is an independently organised event under TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) with the theme of "Inspiring Hope". I have talked about our recent research in various fields with the main heading of "From Science Fiction to Reality: The Electromagnetic Way!".
    • I gave a few talks at the Brainwave Event in NETPark Science Park in Sedgefield County Durham organised to outreach science and engineering to schools and the public in July 2012.
    • I was one of the few scientists selected to take part in "I'm a scientist, get me out of here!" in March 2012. It was great and exciting to take part and answer questions by school kids about crazy science ideas to save the planet! More here
    • I was interviewed by Al–Jazeera English to comment on the latest experimental work by University of Austin, Texas on the invisibility cloak engineering due to my outreach activities in this field.
    • I was awarded the Isambard Kingdom Brunel Award at the British Science Festival in Bradford (UK) September 2011 which is given to outstanding science communicator at an early stage of their career. More here
