ECS643P Power Electronics

Module code: ECS643P

Credits: 15
Semester: SEM1

Power Electronics is becoming increasingly important in the gird interface of renewable energy sources and electrical conversion in electrical vehicles.

This module provides fundamental knowledge of a power electronic system including: power switching semi-conductors (Power diodes, Thyristors, MOSFETs, IGBTs); power conversion circuits (rectifiers, inverters, dc-dc & ac-ac converters); power factor correction converters, and PWM switching methods. The module is mainly focused on the design of power electronic circuits including modelling (in Matlab/Simulink), control systems and their magnetics.
