H610 BEng Electronic Engineering (3 years)
Accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology
The BEng Electronic Engineering focuses on digital and analogue circuit design, software applications and microprocessors and control and communications systems. Emphasis is placed on the design of digital circuits and systems using advanced software tools. The first two years are similar to the BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme. In addition you will be taught specialist business modules relevant to technology and engineering industries. You will study very-large-scale integration (VLSI) and digital signal processing (DSP) design in your final year of study.
The MEng programme covers much of the same ground as the BEng programme, at least for three years. Your professional and project skills will be strengthened, particularly in your third and fourth years through group project work. In your final year, you will take specialist advanced Masters modules making you attractive to future employers.
Degree structure
Please note that module availability may vary slightly from year to year.
Entry requirements
For this programme Physics or Electronics (GCE A-level or equivalent) is required. For exceptional candidates we will consider AS Physics if it is part of a broader curriculum model.
The BEng option of this degree requires 300+ points.
The MEng option of this degree requires 320+ points.
Please refer to our entry requirements page.
Careers
This degree programme opens up management career opportunities in industrial and manufacturing environments which involve major project and contract responsibilities that require a blend of technical skills, good judgement and communication skills. There is a strong demand from the electronics industry for graduates who can use advanced software tools for digital design and this is reflected in the high salaries offered. If you would like to work on the design of custom VLSI chips for various applications, this is a first class area in which to start your professional career.
