Athena Swan award

athena_swanThe School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science has been awarded the Bronze Athena SWAN Award. Athena SWAN is a Charter which recognises excellence in an institution's commitment to gender equality. Originally a charter which focused on the progression of women academics and researchers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM), the Athena SWAN charter was extended in 2015 to address gender more widely.

The charter includes gender equality work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), and in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students and not just barriers to progression that affect women. The charter also recognises that individuals have identities shaped by several different factors and encourages the consideration of the intersection of gender and other factors wherever possible.
