Mortimer the drumming robot, the brainchild of our PhD student Louis McCallum, made an appearance on UK national television this week - on the Gadget Show on Channel 5.

Mortimer, who develops his own drum patterns in response to human piano playing and has basic facial features and head movements, was created as part of his research into the ways in which humans interact and build social bonds with robots.

Mortimer is becoming used to his TV appearances - he’s previously appeared on BBC4 as part of his involvement in the 2014 Royal Institution (RI) Christmas Lectures.

The segment featuring Mortimer’s drumming starts around 22 minutes into this episode of the Gadget Show
