Our second year Electronic Engineering students undertaking our Design and Build Project module (ECS514U) competed against each other to find the best design solution for a vertical plotter with wireless control.

Sponsored by Rapid Electronics, our second year students worked in small groups and were encouraged to find a creative solution to the engineering challenge that was set. Students demonstrated their work on 21 March, 2018 and were judged by three EECS academics with representatives from Rapid Electronics also in attendance, awarding prizes to the winner and runner up.

1st prize was awarded to group 10 - Hassan Elmasry, Rashid Nkrumah, Jacob Sewell, Salim Alsalami, Saju Mohsin Abedin - with the 2nd prize awarded to group 2- Spyridon Couvaras, Savan Lacmane, Hasan Khan, Hayagreevan Sriram, Ed Ben-Andrew.

The three academic judges, Khalid Rajab, Kamyar Mehran and Matthew Tang, commented on the quality of demos and presentations and said, “It is very impressive at this stage of their degree to see high level of group organisation and project planning in addition to the impressive level of technical abilities demonstrated with creativity and innovation.”

The project was organised by module organiser, Dr. Akram Alomainy and Electronics Teaching Lab Manager, Ho Huen.
